Silver Jubilee Celebration of Passing out of the 16th batch of DoST

SNAS co-organized the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Passing out of the 16th batch of DoST on 18th of December, 2021. The event was blessed with the presence of alumni from different batches and it was streamed live with video conferencing. Due to the pandemic, many joined to bless the occasion through online mode. The celebration included the cultural activities of SNAS and the families of 16th batch. They had a long-time chat remembering their golden memories and experiences over the past years. Their words gave great inspiration to the upcoming batches and freshers. We take up the opportunity to congratulate the 16th batch on the occasion of their silver jubilee and wish them the very best.

WEBINAR - "Defence Seaworthiness Management System on Australian Naval Ship through the Life Cycle"

  SNAS conducted the 10th episode of the Webinar Series on the topic "Defence Seaworthiness Management System on Australian Naval Ship through the Life Cycle" on 25th of November, 2021. The Webinar was taken by Mr. Sanu Rajanbabu, Quality Assurance Manager, Naval Construction Branch,  Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, Australia. The interactive session dealt with the understanding and implementation of DSwMS. The session also included talks on functional performance specification, ship specification and other related topics. iCANOE'21

The Department of Ship Technology successfully conducted the International Conference on Advances in Naval and Ocean Engineering ( iCANOE'21 ) as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of CUSAT. The ClassNK Best Project Awards were also distributed in the ceremony. WEBINAR - "Design of Underwater Vehicles"

  SNAS conducted the 9th episode of the Webinar Series on the topic "Design of Underwater Vehicles" on 20th of October, 2021. The Webinar was taken by Cmde PHM Salih (Retd.) , (3rd Batch Alumnus of DoST), Head Submarine Design, L&T Defence and Aerospace. The interactive session dealt with Submarine Designing and various parameters to be considered in designing an Underwater Vehicle. An elaborate QnA session was held after the presentation, clarifying the doubts of the audience on various insights shared during the webinar. Eco Club Inauguration

  Society of Naval Architecture Students (SNAS), conducted the inauguration of the SNAS Eco Club on Oct 13, 2021. Ms. Atma Dinnie Charles, Research Analyst, UN Environmental Programme, inaugurated the club by presenting a short video of the club through online mode. Following this, there was an interactive session by the guest on the topic "UN International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and its Importance".   The Eco Club aims to create a sense of commitment in students towards environment and make meaningful efforts in protecting the environment. More webinars and other events will be conducted in the future in order to spread awareness among the students and to explore various possible ways by which our youth can contribute in preserving the environment.

WEBINAR - "IMO CONVENTIONS AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE IN SHIP DESIGN"

SNAS conducted the 8th episode of the Webinar Series on the topic "IMO CONVENTIONS AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE IN SHIP DESIGN" on 24th of September, 2021. The Webinar was taken by Mr. Sunil Kumar(8th Batch Alumnus DoST), Founder, Director, Verity Maritime Solutions FZC. The interactive session dealt with IMO, their regulatory mechanism, conventions and involvement of those regulations in various design stages of ships. WEBINAR - "Classification Societies: An Insider View"

  SNAS conducted the 7th episode of the Webinar Series on the topic "Classification Societies: An Insider View" on 15th of September, 2021. The Webinar was taken by Mr. Suresh Manu (21st Batch Alumnus DoST), Principal Engineer / Project Manager - DNV Singapore. The interactive session dealt with classification societies and their role in the marine sector. The speaker gave many insights on the various aspects that facilitate class societies to perform its functions while also giving an indepth idea about the industry from a professional point of view. An elaborate QnA session was held after the presentation, clarifying the doubts of the audience on various insights shared during the webinar.   SNAS conducted the 6th episode of the Webinar Series on the topic of "Innovating for Marine Sector" on 8th of August, 2021. The Webinar was taken by Mr.  Suchin Jain  (14th Batch Alumnus DoST), Founder Director and CEO, ICS. The interactive session dealt with innovations in marine sector, why it is important and how these innovations can be implemented with scalability. An elaborate QnA session was held after the presentation, clarifying the doubt on the ideas put forward during the webinar. WEBINAR - “Oil and Gas Upstream Operations and Where Naval Architects Can Fit”

 SNAS conducted the 5th episode of the webinar series titled “Oil and Gas Upstream Operations and Where Naval Architects Can Fit” on 18th June 2021. The lead speaker of the event was Mr. Devi Prasad Velapilli (13th Batch Alumnus DoST), Director,  Green palm group,  Dubai. The webinar was very interactive and it covered many interesting topics such as the procedure of installation of oil rigs i.e. designing of structure based on the depth, major procedure in making a floating oil rig etc. He also gave some insights on the necessary skills for naval architects to enter the field of oil and gas. Felicitation Ceremony - Mr. Yashwant R Kamath

SNAS conducted the 4th episode of the webinar series titled “SHIPBUILDING PROCESS: A Korean Way” on 19th May 2021(Wednesday). The lead speaker of the event was Mr. Pramod Chambath (21st Batch Alumnus DoST), Site Manager SeaQuest Marine Power Management Ltd Korea. Sports Club Inauguration

Congratulations to the winners of the SNAS IPL FEVER 2021!!! The SNAS Sports Club's Inauguration & IPL FEVER 2021 prize distribution ceremony was conducted on May 16th (Sunday). The chief guest for the event was Mr. Dijoy Divakaran (26th batch alumnus DoST,  also Mentor-MAST Cricket Team). The event was conducted via virtual meeting application. Society  of Naval Architecture Student s conducted the 2nd  episode of the  “SNAS W ebinar S eries ”  titled ‘ Solar Boats- From Making to Maintaining ’  on 5th   May 2021 .   T he lead speaker of the event was Mr. Sandith Thandasherry, who  is the Founder CEO of NavAlt Solar Boats, XShip Design and Analytics, and Navgathi Marine Design and Construction. Farewell to Prof.(Dr.) CB Sudheer

Society of Naval Architecture Students (SNAS) bid adieu to the beloved and respected professor, Dr. C B Sudheer, who retired on the 30th of April, 2021, after years of meritorious and dedicated services to the Department. He was truly a great teacher to whom students have always looked up to for guidance and inspiration and have always been a constant pillar of support for the students and his peers. A farewell program in regards to his retirement was organized by SNAS in collaboration with DOSTAS, via an online virtual meeting platform, in the presence of the entire department members and several alumni from around the world. SNAS, on behalf of students and faculties, expressed their sincere gratitude and acknowledged his invaluable contributions to the department. Blood Group Database and Blood Donation Campaign

  Society of Naval Architecture Students (SNAS) organized a " Blood Group Database and Blood Donation Campaign". The database would help the health authorities to get an organized database regarding the blood groups of the students of CUSAT who are willing to donate blood and are interested to participate in this initiative. As we know, once a person is vaccinated, he or she is not allowed to donate blood and since we are going through mass vaccination phase there may be an issue regarding the unavailability of blood in the blood banks and the hospitals. Foreseeing the situation Society of Naval Architecture Students (SNAS) has proposed to organize a database and blood donation campaign. The database itself will be made accessible to all major health authorities, Blood Banks, Hospitals, District Administration, etc.

Software Club Inauguration

  Society of Naval Architecture Students (SNAS), conducted the inauguration of the Software Club. Prof Dr K Sivaprasad inaugurated the club by presenting a short video of the club through online mode. Following this programme The Software Club conducted their 1st event "MAXSURF WORKSHOP" by Mr. Anishkumar MN . The program was conducted in collaboration with DOSTAS and STICON, via an online virtual meeting platform. Special thanks to Mr Anishkumar MN for his commitment towards the department and thanks to DOSTAS for their help and support to make the event possible. The Software Club aims to improve the students' general knowledge and understanding of computers and various programs used in jobs today. More webinars will be conducted in the future in order to further push students to refine their skills and competency.

WEBINAR - "Special Service Craft Structure : Application of Lloyd’s Register Rules"

Society of Naval Architecture Students (SNAS) , conducted the first episode of the webinar series planned over the course of the year. The topic for 1st Webinar was  "Special Service Craft Structure : Application of Lloyd’s Register Rules" by Sujith Tooneri , Senior Surveyor/ Team leader at Lloyd’s Register . Release of Internship Brochure 2021

  The Internship brochure of the Department of Ship Technology, first of its kind for the year 2021 was released on 31 st  March 2021. The release was conducted by making use of an online virtual platform considering the situation. The brochure was released by Mr. Pyarilal Kandy,   Managing Partner & Director of Operations at Great Waters Maritime LLC, who happens to be proud alumni of the department and  a  pioneer in the maritime field.
